Grave of the Fireflies

What can I say? This movie is soooo sad. You feel like you want to grab these children right out of the screen and feed them and hug them. Watching this movie makes your heart break. The storytelling is superb and the animation and artwork makes the story come to life. There’s so much emotion involved. It takes a lot out of you.

I fully agree with the critics when they say that it’s one of the best war films every made. Most other war films show the battles and fighting, but that’s what sets this movie apart. It shows the aftermath, what happens to families and children after a war has taken place, which we rarely see in movies.

Everyone MUST see it.. It’s not officially rated but it contains a lot of violence so obviously don’t want really young kids watching it, but everyone else should see it.

DVD Case Summary
In the aftermath of a World War II bombing, two orphaned children struggle to survive in the Japanese countryside. To Seita and his four-year-old sister, the helplessness and indifference of their countrymen is even more painful than the enemy raids.

Through desperation, hunger and grief, these children’s lives are as heartbreakingly fragile as their spirit and love is inspiring. Grave of the Fireflies is a tale of the true tragedy of was and innocence lost, not only of the abandoned young, but of an entire nation.
